During the course of his Specialist training, Dr. Shine Ashokan developed a keen interest in Clinical Teaching and has since been on several Teaching Boards. His regular Academic commitments include :

Warwick University Undergraduate Medical students – Clinical Tutor & Examiner

This involves groups of Year 2 and Year 4 Medical students being taught on various subjects in Trauma and Orthopaedics. They are given designated time periods and have an assessment at the end of it. Topics on Trauma are usually taught in Fracture Clinics where students have access to patients presenting with injuries. Similarly, Elective Clinics in the Outpatients Dept helps students familiarise with a variety of Cold Orthopaedic conditions. They are taught on History taking, thorough Clinical evaluation of the Musculoskeletal system, to ask for appropriate Investigations and to discuss the Management.
During this period, students have to submit patient portfolios and this will count towards their overall assessment.
  Basic Surgical Skills Courses for Surgical Trainees on the Warwick and Worchester Surgical Rotation – Faculty Board Member
Graduates who have decided to take up a Surgical career have an opportunity to develop their basic surgical skill sets. Lectures are followed by demonstrations on Surgical techniques on animal and simulated specimens. Trainees leave the course in the confidence that they have acquired the basic set of skills to begin a career in Surgery.
  Warwickshire & Worcestershire Surgical Training Scheme - Examiner for the mock MRCS Examinations
Candidates within the above Training scheme appearing for their Surgical Membership Exams at the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) have an opportunity to have an assessment of their preparation. An actual setting of the Viva part of the MRCS Exams is arranged and Doctors/Surgeons from various Specialties e.g. General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Radiology etc, are invited as Examiners.
Warwick Hospital Teaching for Foundation year Doctors, Senior House Officer’s and Registrars, Trauma Nurse Practioners – Faculty
Dr. Shine Ashokan is faculty for regular Clinical Teaching for Surgical Trainees within Warwick Hospital.  This is done once a week and involves tools such as PowerPoint presentations and workshops.
